Saturday Softball

One of my favorite stories of Mike’s childhood occurred when he was about four years old. As a true child-of-the-80’s, He-Man fanatic, he insisted for months that his family call him “Michael-(middle name)-Skeleton-Blood-Robertson.” A serious mouthful, for sure. But Mike was undeterred and wouldn’t answer to anything else.

For those who know Mike, you know that as he grew, so did his obsession for all things sports-related. In fact, his passion for baseball soon surpassed his affinity for He-Man and “Mike-Baseball-Robertson” could well be his new moniker.

The high school glory days have since passed, but Mike relishes any opportunity to be out on the field. Even if it means settling for a game of softball. (No offense, softball fans!) One such opportunity came a few weeks ago. Rarely have I seen Mike rise with such eagerness at 7 am on a Saturday morning. Hehehe! No snooze button slapping or attempt to shield out the sunlight with his pillow -- Mike was up and ready to play.

And play he did! With many solid hits and awesome plays, Mike was definitely in the running for “MVP” of the game. All the while, Justin and I cheered him on from the crowd. We love you, #22!!

  2. Yes, we remember his h.s. glory days and his commitment. Now he has a son to teach this life-time sport to.
    Special father-son photo!
