Now that baby #2 is on the way, we're in the market for a double stroller. As it turns out, the decision isn't as easy as I anticipated. Hours of researching the "perfect" stroller, and all it's gotten me is a headache. How in the world do I choose?? Is a tandem better than a side-by-side? A jogger is nice for outdoors/recreation, but is it too bulky for around-town use? What about size of kiddos? Justin's a tall kid for his age.
I may seem to be making this a bigger deal than it needs to be, but we all know that a stroller can be a pricey piece of baby equipment. I just want to be sure that the stroller we choose is worth the moo-lah.
Here are a few of the contenders:
The Contours Optima
Graco Quattro
Phil & Teds (I'm not really sure about this one.
It looks like one of the kids is practically on the ground. And what about storage space?)
BOB Revolution
Suggestions welcome! What's worked well for you or someone you know?
Okay, I'll throw my two cents in. I kind of like the BOB Revolution. I like the way the kiddos would be side by side to each other, do the seats lay back? I can't tell. You also have storage space, and it doesn't look too wide at all from this angle. It looks like it would turn well too. Of course, I haven't seen the price:) Well, there you go, that's my two cents! Have fun!!
ReplyDeletethe bob revolution is super pricey, but everyone i know who has had one loves it. for my 2 cents, i like having a double jogger AND a duoglider -- something kind of like the top two options. i like the double jogger for any kind of outdoor use because i think it's sturdier and easier to navigate. the duoglider style usually works better indoors because it's less bulky and doesn't take up as much width space in a crowded area like a store or mall, etc.
ReplyDeleteHave you checked craigslist? I just looked just to see, and that BoB Revolution was for sale in Sac, as well as a couple other jogging strollers. Since I have no expertise in strollers, my two cents are on how to save your cents... :)
ReplyDeletecandace, i'm in the same boat!! but also added into the equation is wondering if i'll NEED a double stroller, since pearce will be almost 3 when new baby is here, and she barely likes sitting in current stroller (bob revolution) she likes to jump out and walk herself. but yet she does get tired sometimes and then wants to ride. so maybe i do need one. i just dont know what to get either!! and the price tags make it ridiculous - maybe that's why i'm trying to convince myself i dont need one??
ReplyDeletebut i'm kinda leaning toward the phil n' teds and NOT the side by side bob- those things are sooooo wide and huge - that i woudl tread taking it in and out of the trunk alone!! although i know they are a smooth and comfortable ride and push. but what a hastle to get in and out of the trunk of a honda accord (no SUV or mini-van here...)
Hey Candida. We have the BOB without the swivel tire for running and I love it. It is a very sturdy stroller that will probably last longer than our whole fam combined. It fits through every doorway I have gone through and the kids like sitting side by side. Our stroller can be kind of bulky without the swivel tire because it's harder to maneuver so I think the swivel is a good choice. I really like the look of Phil and Teds though and have heard great things about them too. If you're going to spend that kind of mulah though I have heard amazing reviews about the City Select double stroller (about the same price as the Phil and Ted) AND that one has an attachment like a sit and stand so that when baby #3 comes along (haha) all three can be on the same stroller...pretty cool. I also have a friend that loves her Britax B Ready stroller which can accommodate two kiddos. It looks sleek and similar to Phil and Teds and City Select. I like the BOB though if you are going to work out with the kids. Its an all in one because it jogs really nicely and can be used like a regular stroller. Hope that helps
ReplyDeleteThanks to all for the helpful replies!! We took a family outing to Buy Buy Baby (that place is crazy-huge!) and tried out several different types of double strollers. Their selection was impressive -- with virtually all major brands in store. :) Happily, we're now a few steps closer to a decision! Rather than a tandem (which proved a bit more challenging to maneuver with Justin aboard) we've decided to go with a side-by-side. It will be bulkier, no doubt. (This is where that solid, pioneer stock frame of mine comes in handy! Ha!) I think I'm up for the challenge of loading/unloading it into our Honda Pilot. Additionally, we like the idea of an all-terrain (which we currently have in a single). We've pretty much scratched the BOB from our list, as compared with all other doubles it was by far the bulkiest in every way. And, in no way do I pretend to be a serious runner -- or even a runner, for that matter. ;) The Bumbleride Indie Twin had me at "hello," as well as a few other finalists: The Mountain Buggy and The Baby Jogger City Double. Since all of our finalists come with a hefty price tag, we're waiting for a good deal to come along before we take the plunge! :)
ReplyDeleteWe found - back in the day - that price didn't always justify the best stroller. Our favorite was Graco. Do they still even make this brand? Anyways - these were great. And don't do side by side. It is always so annoying when people come strolling through a crowd with a side by side. It takes up too much room and you have a hard time going through doors. A front-back one is much more user friendly.
